Dr. Amelia Fitzgerald grew up in Carlisle, Ontario and attended the University of Guelph for her undergraduate degree. She graduated from UoG with an Honours Bio-Medical Science degree accompanied by a minor in French. After she finished her degree, she spent two years working at an optometry clinic and decided to pursue a Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo.
During her studies, she participated in an externship in Dauphin, Manitoba where she learned to work alongside ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. She learned to work and provide care in a rural setting to help manage various eye conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Dr. Fitzgerald completed a second externship at a clinic in Waterloo, Ontario which focussed on treating dry eye disease. She learned about many modern technologies to treat dry eye including intense pulsed light and radiofrequency treatments, which help provide relief to patients suffering from dry eye.
Dr. Fitzgerald is very happy to be back practicing in Guelph and looks forward to providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. She is more than happy to answer any and all of your questions regarding your eye health. In her free time, she enjoys running, biking, Pilates, cooking, reading, and snuggling with her cat, Rosie.
